God’s Voice in the Past

In the past, God’s voice was heard through miracles and prophets. The Old Testament is replete with stories of God speaking directly to individuals like Moses, Elijah, and Samuel. These direct communications were often accompanied by miraculous signs and wonders, serving as powerful reminders of God’s presence and authority.

Even the disciples mentioned that miracles were fading away.

Hebrews 1:1-2 says, “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son.”

This passage highlights a significant shift in how God chose to communicate with humanity.

The Role of Jesus

God’s spoken words have ceased after His Son, Jesus. With the coming of Jesus, God provided the ultimate revelation of His will and character. Jesus’ life, teachings, death, and resurrection encapsulate God’s message to humanity. Jesus is described as the “Word” in John 1:1, emphasizing His role as the divine communicator.

Communication Through the Bible

But today, God communicates with us in a different way. Instead of speaking directly, God has given us His authority through the Bible. The Bible, composed of the Old and New Testaments, is a collection of divinely inspired writings that serve as our spiritual guide.

The Bible is our guide, providing us with God’s words and teachings. It contains everything we need to know about God’s will, salvation, and how to live a life that pleases Him. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Hearing God’s Voice Today

Through the Scriptures, we can hear God’s voice in our daily lives. By reading and meditating on the Bible, we allow God’s words to penetrate our hearts and minds, guiding our decisions and actions. Prayer and reflection on Scripture enable us to discern God’s will and experience His presence.

So, does God talk to us? Yes, through the Bible. The Scriptures are not just ancient texts but living and active words that speak to our present circumstances and needs. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

The Bible: Our Source of Truth

Perhaps, the Bible would be the only source of truth before the second coming of Jesus. As we navigate the complexities of life, the Bible remains a steadfast source of divine wisdom and guidance. It is through the Bible that we continue to hear God’s voice, receive His instruction, and find comfort in His promises.

In conclusion, while God may not speak to us today through the same miraculous means as in the past, He continues to communicate powerfully through the Bible. By engaging with Scripture, we can cultivate a deeper relationship with God and align our lives with His will. The Bible stands as a testament to God’s enduring desire to speak to His people, guiding us until the day of Jesus’ return.
